What’s the go-to solution for an electrical box that needs multiple CamLock connections for a quick and reliable temporary power connection? A CamLock panel!

CamLock panels are available in metallic or non-metallic configurations and are assembled with industry-standard CamLocks designed to be mounted onto electrical distribution equipment eliminating the need to cut multiple holes in an enclosure. The CamLocks on the panel, or ‘cams’, are interchangeable single-pole connectors used throughout the electrical, construction, and entertainment industries for temporary or emergency electrical power distribution. They manage the electrical loads and distribute power from a power source to external equipment, providing the ability to quickly connect and disconnect without the need of tools or an electrician. CamLock plugs and receptacles replace bulky and expensive multi-conductor cables allowing the use of lighter, single-conductor cables rated at higher amperages. With a set of CamLock cables, you can easily connect to power sources securely. CamLocks are the industry standard for reliable and safe use even in the most severe operating conditions.

CamLocks come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and configurations and our experts here at Temporary Power Supply can help you determine which ones you need based on cable size, voltage, and amperage requirements. A majority of our products are assembled with Series 16 CamLocks so we always have extra connectors on hand manufactured by Hubbell, Leviton, Marinco, and Eaton. Series 16 Cams are universal and work interchangeably with each other, no matter which brand you choose.

In this blog, we’ll discuss how CamLock Panels are made, installed, and why you need one for your electrical equipment.

How Are CamLock Panels Made?

You might be wondering how are CamLock panels custom made to order, so we’ll get to it and tell you!

First, you must determine what material is best suited for the job depending on the environment or electrical specifications. But don’t worry, our experts can help you decide. CamLock Panels can be made from 1/8” aluminum or completely non-metallic plates. The aluminum is finished with a black powder coat and a layer of ArmorTEK to prevent scratches and rusting. The non-metallic plate doesn’t need powder-coating, which helps to reduce lead times while still offering a durable product with corrosion resistant properties.

Next, holes are cut depending on the number of CamLock connections needed. The holes are cut to fit the connectors with an automated precision cutting machine for consistent error-free results. Now that the holes are cut, the cams are added to the plate to complete the design. Spacing between the holes on the panel reduces the electric and magnetic fields between the CamLocks.

CamLock connectors come in two different angle configurations, 45-degree or 90-degree. The 45-degree CamLock is pointed downward in a 45-degree angle so that there is no tension on the cable when the panel is mounted to the side of an enclosure. The 90-degree CamLock, also known as a straight CamLock, is used when the panel is mounted to the bottom of the enclosure.

Now that you have your custom-made panel on hand, the installation will be simple and fast! All you need to do is cut a single rectangular hole large enough to mount the panel and fasten it to your equipment, wire the interior, and the panel will be ready for a quick connection. If you’re not a licensed and certified electrician, we highly recommend you reach out to your local electrician to wire up and install your equipment according to National Electric Code.
